Benefits of Internal Pelvic Release Work

Internal Pelvic Release Work (IPRW) is a specialised form of bodywork focusing on the soft tissues of the pelvis, rather than the bony structure.

These soft tissues are crucial for maintaining balance and adapting to changes, particularly during pregnancy. However, they can also hold tension from various sources such as scars, injuries, postural habits, trauma, surgery, and lifestyle choices. This tension can restrict movement, flow, and space within the pelvic region and can carry emotional and physical memories, often referred to as ‘issues in the tissues.’

An IPRW session helps identify and release this tension through gentle, direct touch, allowing the tissues to relax and create space. This process, often described as making the tissues ‘sigh,’ promotes better function and relief.

The vagina, a remarkably adaptable organ, can be accessed not just through its top wall but also through its back wall. By engaging the soft-tissue connections through the back wall, IPRW uses a tender touch and directed breathing to release tension in the ligaments, muscles, fascia, and organs, enhancing stabilisation and overall pelvic health.

How do I know if internal pelvic release work is right for me?

Internal pelvic release work can support many women, particularly as pelvic health is often something we’re not fully educated about. This work helps bring awareness, softness, and improved function to the pelvic space.

It may be right for you if you are:

  • Preparing for birth or recovering postpartum
Supporting the body to release tension, improve function, and prepare for or recover from birth.

  • Experiencing pelvic pain or discomfort (due to endometriosis, surgery etc)
Helping to reduce tension in the tissues and support better movement and circulation.

  • Living with pelvic organ prolapse
Assisting the body in finding more support and balance through improved tissue function and awareness.

  • Feeling tightness, restriction, or disconnection in your pelvic area
Encouraging softness, mobility, and a deeper connection to this part of your body.

Internal work is always approached gently, with full consent, and tailored to your comfort. We’ll always discuss whether it feels appropriate for you before proceeding.
